Review

Kate is a divorcee and has a small girl, diagnosed with a tumor. :( Lack of money is actually one big problem hovering in front of Kate,when fate dumps her on Lucas’s  doorstep - literally. 

She was allowed to stay in his ramshackle mansion by his Aunt, little knowing that she would run into the owner of the house who had no clue that he has an unexpected guest. Lucas’s shock is understandable when he returns home one day to find a skimpily clad beautiful woman munching an apple in his kitchen.(Ommph eve-ish factor) *winking….. Both are drawn towards each other due to their pain and loneliness.

But Kate has one problem. She needs to raise funds immediately for her daughter. Unlike the other Harlequin stories that I've read, here our Hero is not of the macho, rich kind, with green notes piled inside the family vault. While I miss that, I can’t say that I’m disappointed in seeing this more relatable hero. 

His funds are all tied up in his company and he cannot provide the cash. But he can help her raise the fund. His ramshackle mansion can be used for that.- did I mention that Kate is an interior designer? (sigh! The naughty Fate at work again. I am not feeling too good, psst Fate, can I have a handsome doctor here- I promise not to eat the apple also).

Kate has a perfect plan, to renovate their mansion and restore it to its former historical elegance and throw a party to showcase the Carrington Gems.

But pig headed Lucas is too caught up with his ex wife to see the beneficial proposition. Added to that he misses his own daughter, whom his ex wife does not allow him to meet. (Women can be mean too, I tell you). So, will Kate be able to persuade him? Of course.This is a Harlequin novel! Will they fall in love? Am I not reading a romance novel?!

So, if everything is predictable, why should this novel be picked up? Because, dear readers, it is the story of two mending souls. It is a story of a mother trying to keep a daughter alive. It is a story of a father not able to come in terms of being separated from his little daughter. How can you miss this one? 

What I liked...

Unlike other Harlequin Mills and Boon romances, the characters are very relatable. Kate's sorrow as a mother touches my heart. Lucas's pain as a father sneak into my heart. Their love is simple yet complicated. Kate comes out as a passionate woman and Lucas as the boy next door. Even with the romance, the fate of Kate's daughter overtake the storyline.

Reasoning

The Alpha hero who may generally associate with Harlequin romance, is actually a loving relatable character. A few instances where, "he feels proud to have brought in the salad", "he sits up taller when he is praised by Kate", makes Kate look more confident than Lucas. While the feminist in me loves that, I tad miss the Harlequin macho man here. For this, I'm sure I will be hooted upon by my feminist friends.:)

Don't flank me ladies - go and buy the book.:)

Would I recommend this book: Definitely. A good, clean book with a beautiful, sweet romance is definitely a wonderful read for any day.
